THE GEMINI FACTOR

The latest in a series of detective novels.  John Roche is a taciturn, insular detective who has been up and down the promotion ladder more than once because he is difficult to get on with, cannot work with authority, and is not at all bothered by any of that.  He survived an horrific childhood, which Almost certainly Created the troubled and isolated man that he is today.  He could quite easily have been on the other side of the law, and reads the mind of the criminal - not least the violent, the deadly, the murderer only too well.  

THE GEMINI FACTOR  is sest in Ireland and in the United States.  Twins, born together, almost identical in appearance, but oh so different in make up.  One the dutiful son. who remains in Ireland outwardly respectable  and successful.  The other gay, wayward, angry, leaving home at 17 and eventually finding his way to the United States without family or friend, or status.  Circumstances eventually force him back home to Ireland but an Ireland that is a very different place to the one he had left years before - but still with the inevitable direct comparison with his brother.  

A body is found on a railway line, in a rundown and industrial part of a city in the South East of Ireland.  But Roche's dilemma is who is the viictim?  Who is the murderer?   It can be very difficult to tell.  Under the outward clothing that enables people to judge health, wealth and social status ... men are really much or a muchness!    

The book is set in both Ireland and in the United States and sees this rough diamond of a detective impressing the Irish Security chiefs, and being tentatively recruited to join them.
