What are some books or authors that you would recommend to our readers?

My children loved Enid Blyton's Magic Faraway Tree and was one of the few stories that had to re-read; JK Rowling - Harry Potter series: JRR Tolkein - Lord of the Rings: Rupert the Bear stories in verse: CS Lewis - Chronicles of Narnia: Lewis Carrol - Aice in Wonderland.

Tell us what you enjoy most about writing [genre].

The most enjoyable part of the whole process is reading the finished story aloud to a group of children and watching the emotions play on their faces. Their enjoyment is a terrific reward.

What have you found to be most challenging about writing in [genre]?

In general the writing poses no major problems other than deciding English of American spelling - invariably I run with Englsih English. the challenging partc comes with the promtional aspects.

Have you been able to incorporate your previous experience in [jobs/education] in your writing?

My stories tend towards having a SciFi content and my scientific backgound comes in useful.

To date, what is your favorite (or most difficult) chapter you have ever written?

The last chapter of my 6th Jimmy Crikey Adventure: should I allow a main character to die?

Did you always want to be an author? If not, what did you want to be when you grew up?

As I grew up I wanted to be (in no particular order) policemen, doctor, racing car driver, explorer, teacher, King.

I didn't realise I wanted to be an author until I made up my first story on the spot to entertain a group of kids taking shelter in our beach tent during a shower. Under duress from my wife to keep them quiet, Jimmy Crikey (my protagonist), was born.
